100 Mile Radius Around State Capitals

Review the research questions and the data needed to establish findings.

Research protocol

  1. Define geographic entities and a stable inclusion/exclusion rule before querying datasets.
  2. Document the source agency, release year, projection, spatial join and missing-record policy.
  3. Reproduce any distance or area computation in a second program or controlled independent sample.
  4. Export a machine-readable table with a data dictionary, licence and method revision.
  5. Publish uncertainty and a correction mechanism with the final map.

Why a published ranking needs context

A remote town ranked by road travel time can differ from one ranked by straight-line distance. State coastline totals differ depending on tidal coastline definitions, level of detail and the inclusion of islands. Radius coverage can differ if roads are considered. The published method must decide and disclose those choices.

Frequently asked questions

Is a dataset available to download?

Not yet. This route is held in draft until original results and reproducible data are audited.

Will the study cite geographic sources?

Yes. Final release requires dated source citations and a reproducibility note.

Editorial and data status: This is an unpublished reference draft. The information must be checked before the page can be treated as current geographic data or production-ready research.
